Directions to the Fort

Address:
Polhawn Fort
Rame Head, Nr Torpoint,
Cornwall, PL 10 1LL

Wherever you are coming from in the England, Scotland or Wales (with the exception Devon and Cornwall) you will need to pass through Exeter to make a direct route to the Fort. Making your way to Exeter is easy enough as it involves the A303 or any combination of motorways.

From Exeter take the A38 through to Plymouth, over the Tamar Bridge and out the side. Your turning off the A38 is a roundabout 7 miles from the bridge in a village called Trerulefoot. Take a left onto the A374.

The following directions take you down to the end of the peninsula to the Fort. If you get lost, you are looking for signs for Polhawn or Rame.

From the turning off the A38, exactly 4 miles down the road is a long sweeping lefthander. Take this turning. A couple of miles down the road you should pass through Portwinkle. In Portwinkle, head straight on at the mini roundabout.

Following the mini roundabout, you are on the B3247. The sea is on your right. Do your best to find a turning on your right after Tregantle Fort, an MOD base. This turning is opposite a car park. If you find this turning, you are in for a treat. Drive along the coast for a little over 3 miles where you will encounter a sharp left hander with a couple of roads leading off to the right. Take the rightmost road. This doesn’t look like much, and may even be a dirt track). This road terminates at the Fort.
